Your first shave

Fresh out of the box? Give it a full charge first - about 2 hours, and you'll get an hour of shaving from it.

How to charge it

Switch the shaver off - it should be off while charging.
Plug the small end of the USB cable into the charging port on the shaver.
Plug the other end into any USB source - a phone charger, laptop, or a mains USB adapter.
A full charge takes around 2 hours and gives at least 60 minutes of run time. Caught short? You can shave with it plugged in and charging.

1 Charge it, then switch on. Give it a full charge before the first shave. Press the power button and the screen lights up, showing how much battery is left. Nothing happening? The safety lock is probably on - press and hold the power button for 3 seconds to release it.

2 Fit the right head. For your scalp and face, use the 6D floating head with the five rotary blades. The other tools - nose and ear trimmer, hair trimmer, cleansing brush and cleansing tool - click on and off the same body. Pull a head straight off, line the next one up with the socket and push it home.

3 Dry or wet, your call. It shaves on dry skin for speed, or with water or a little shaving foam if you prefer a wetter shave. Clean, dry skin tends to give the closest dry finish.

4 Glide over the shape of your head. Let the floating head sit flat against your skin and move it in slow, overlapping passes. The five heads flex through 360 degrees to follow the curves of your scalp, jaw and neck, so let it glide - there's no need to press hard.

5 Catch the missed patches. Run back over anywhere that still feels rough, changing direction slightly to lift hairs lying flat. Hold the non-slip grip and take your time around the ears and neckline.

6 Rinse, shake and dry. Switch off, rinse the head under the tap and shake off the water. Leave it open to air-dry before you put it away - don't wipe the blades with a towel, as that can damage them.

Getting a close, comfortable shave

The 6D floating head carries five rotary blades that each move on their own and flex through 360 degrees, so they follow the shape of your head and face rather than skipping over the curves. That's what lets it reach the awkward spots - around the crown, the jaw and the back of the neck.

Dry or wet. It's built for both. Shave on dry skin for speed, or add water or a little shaving foam for a closer, more comfortable pass. The head is water-resistant (IPX6), so you can rinse it clean under the tap. It isn't meant for the bath or shower though, and the manual says not to use it while bathing.

Getting the best of it. Let the head glide in slow, overlapping strokes and let the blades do the work - pressing harder doesn't shave closer and can drag on the skin. Clean, dry skin gives the closest dry shave, and rinsing the head regularly keeps it cutting well.

The five tools, and what each is for

It's a 5-in-1 kit: one body, several click-on heads. Hold the body and pull a head straight off with a little force; to fit one, line it up with the socket on the body and push it home. The cleansing brush and the cleansing tool both go on via the same small conversion head - fit them to the conversion head first, then that onto the body.

Charging, battery and the display

The screen keeps you posted while you shave. A full battery reads 100 and counts down as you go, so you always know roughly how much shaving time is left. It charges over USB - plug the cable into the shaver and the other end into any USB source, from a phone charger to a laptop or a mains adapter.

Looking after the blades, and when to replace them

Rinse the head after every shave and let it dry, and the blades will stay sharp for a long time. As a rough guide, the makers suggest fitting a fresh cutter head about once a year to keep the shave close - sooner if you notice it tugging or leaving more behind than it used to.

Always use genuine Titan X replacement blades: other heads won't sit right on the 6D float system. You can buy the shaver on its own, or with one or two spare blade heads included, so a replacement is ready when the time comes - the bundle options on the product page cover both.

Worth knowing: never shave with a blade or comb that's chipped or bent - a damaged head can nick the skin. If a blade looks damaged, fit a fresh one before you use the shaver again.

Cleaning the shaving head

Give the head a quick rinse after each shave. Every week or so, open it up and clear out the trimmings properly.

Step 1Switch the shaver off and unplug it from charge.

Step 2Thumb the five outer heads apart. For the middle head, hold it and turn it anticlockwise to open.

Step 3Rinse the heads and the trimmings chamber under the tap.

Step 4Close it up and shake off the water. Don't dry the blades with a towel or tissue - it can damage them.

Step 5Open it back up and leave it to air-dry fully before storing.

Only ever use water. No salt water, no boiling water, and none of the cleaning sprays meant for kitchens or bathrooms.

Safety essentials

Keep it dry where it counts. It's water-resistant for rinsing and wet shaving, but don't use it in the bath or shower, don't reach for it if it falls into water, and make sure your hands are dry before plugging it in to charge. Unplug it before cleaning.

For your safety. For hygiene, don't share it with anyone else. Don't use it near aerosols or sprays. Keep it away from children, and supervise closely if someone with reduced mobility is using it. Never run it with a damaged cord, blade or comb. The battery is sealed in and non-replaceable - never take the shaver apart, and don't heat it above 100°C or throw it on a fire.

Your questions, answered

Can I use it in the shower or bath?

How long does a charge last, and how long does it take to charge?

A full charge takes about 2 hours and gives at least 60 minutes of shaving. If it runs flat mid-shave, you can carry on with it plugged in and charging.

The screen won't respond - is it broken?

Almost certainly not. The safety lock is probably on: press and hold the power button for 3 seconds to unlock it. If the screen's blank, put it on charge for a few minutes and try again.

How often should I replace the blades?

About once a year as a rule of thumb, or sooner if it starts to tug or leaves more stubble than it used to. Use genuine Titan X replacement heads - you can buy the shaver with one or two spares included so a fresh head is ready when you need it.

Can I shave my head as well as my face?

Yes. The 6D floating head is made for both - the five blades flex to follow your scalp and your jawline. The kit also includes a nose and ear trimmer and a hair trimmer with combs for edges and beard lines.

What are the brush and the other heads for?

It's a 5-in-1 kit. Alongside the shaver head you get a nose and ear trimmer, a full-width hair trimmer with 3, 5 and 7mm combs, a cleansing brush and a cleansing tool for the face. They all click onto the same body.

What does the wash symbol mean?

After 30 minutes of continuous use, the wash icon flashes to remind you to rinse the head. It's a prompt to clean it, not a fault.

How do I clean it properly?

Switch it off, open the head, and rinse the blades and the trimmings chamber under the tap. Shake off the water and let it air-dry - don't wipe the blades with a towel, and only ever use plain water (no salt water, boiling water or household cleaning sprays).

Can I replace the battery?

No, the battery is sealed inside and isn't user-replaceable, so please don't try to open the shaver up. Looked after, a full charge gives an hour or more of shaving.
